Welcome to the Inirly Yoga Method Summary

4 Levels of Yoga

This section of the Inirly Yoga Summary presents the 4 fundamental levels of this style. They’re arranged from external to internal, tangible to intangible, as is the traditional direction of yoga.

Level 1: The Pose (external, tangible)

Yoga postures align, compress, extend, and, otherwise, manipulate the body’s shape to arouse wakefulness in the mind. Since the physiological mechanism behind the poses is contraction this method utilizes contraction more than other styles to create as much wakefulness as possible. By squeezing muscle, nerves fire, blood vessels constrict, blood pressure rises, and the pose lights up. Then comes the release.

*Intense contraction feels like the squeeze of a morning stretch. It increases heart rate and circulation. There is also the professionally recognized therapeutic approach of Progressive Relaxation Therapy, which utilizes contraction to create measurable changes in the nervous system.

Level 2: Transitions (external, tangible)

Transitions, distinct from the poses themselves, are as significant as the postures. The Inirly method uses the transitions as an opportunity to control exhaustion and elegantly relax in movement. Such well-designed transitions provide a valuable balance that offsets the intense contraction and density of the poses when they’re being held.

Level 3: Breathwork (internal, tangible)

Breathwork is unique because it’s the first level of the practice that feels especially internal and slightly intangible. It’s also very animated! The goal of breathwork is to create maximum wakefulness by using the respiratory and circulatory systems to shock and soothe the body and mind at will.

A wide range of breathing techniques are employed throughout the Inirly Method sequence. As they become more familiar, practitioners get the chance to throttle the exhilaration and vitality of their practice and, consequentially, spike their sense of self-awareness and depth to unprecedented levels.

*The traditional yoga perspective is that wakefulness is a function of energy. Simply, the more energy one has the more awake and aware they become. Peace, presence, and clarity are discovered to not necessarily be calm physical states but, surprisingly, well-organized, high-energy states.

Level 4: Meditation (internal, intangible)

Meditation is truly internal. Unlike other styles, the Inirly Yoga Method practices controlling the mind through mantra, contemplation, focus exercises, and counting. The mind can be trained to think in certain ways, understand exceptional truths, and provide breathtaking perspectives. The mind has always been the peak of the historic yoga practice and this sequence is committed to that point.

*In Sanskrit, the human being is called manava, the mental animal. The mind plays such an enormous role in our lives and, yet, its so commonly unmanaged. It’s no one’s fault. We’re wired and conditioned to prioritize other things. Still, the mind is there, influencing everything. Yoga more than anything is the art of mind control.

Go Deep! 4 Principles to Deepen Your Practice.

The depth of your practice equates to the amount of meaning, peace, and understanding you get from your practice. The deeper you go, the more quiet and more still you become. The more quiet and still you become, the better your mind is at perceiving the moment; ie: mental clarity.

This section of the Iniry Yoga summary presents key points to the actionable techniques of the practice, organized around a framework called the Four Principles of Depth.

The process of creating a truly deep yogic practice can be divided into 4 simple steps; intensity, focus, subtlety, and beauty. Breaking down every pose, transition, breath, and thought into these four principles will help us first and most importantly experience depth.

They'll also help us understand depth, why it’s such an important psychological state, and lastly how to improve it.

The Depth Loop

Intensity catches our attention. When the techniques are so intense, they’re difficult to ignore. This forces our minds to focus.

The more intense our techniques the more attention they demand, and the more focus they create. Focus leads to perceiving subtle details.

As we become aware of new details and elements of the technique, our range of control expands, which improves the expression and performance of the technique, making it more beautiful and fulfilling to us.

Because we’re fulfilled, we’re inspired to keep going. Beauty leads to the confidence to intensify, again. The Depth Loop continues.

Together these four steps - intensity, focus, subtlety, and beauty - create a neurological feedback loop that sets the stage for remarkable moments of depth, physical vitality, and awe-inspiring presence.

How to create a deeper practice:

  • Principle 1 (Intensity): make it stressful, difficult, or scary

  • Principle 2 (Focus): make it important and meaningful to you

  • Principle 3 (Subtlety): follow the details and make it about going inside yourself

  • Principle 4 (Beauty): make it sincere

Inirly Yoga Tip-Based Reference Guide

This useful Inirly Yoga Tip-Based Reference Guide teaches you how to apply intensity (principle 1) to each level of the practice by compressing many of the key ideas and insights from the method into a handy list of to-do’s.

*The value of the 4 Principles of Depth is that focus, subtlety, and beauty are all byproducts of the first principle, intensity. Apply all effort to the first principle and the other 3 will happen on their own. This is why only principle 1 is referenced in the guide below.
